Commissions + Critiques Fundraiser

Standard

As some of you might know, my cat Jubas suffers from bladder stones. Luckily we caught it in time, and he won’t require surgery like he did the last time. BUT he’s still on a special diet that is incredibly draining money-wise (a 5kg bag is €49 and it lasts half a month, plus vet visits and blood/urine tests). Norbert also needs two new lamps (a heating lamp, which is €7, and a UVB lamp, which is €35). This is Priority #1.

Adding to this, I got accepted into the wonderful Rainbow Weekend at the Writing Barn. I’ve applied for a scholarship, but it’s not guaranteed, AND the flight alone will be around €1000. Priority #2.

So, in an effort to help me come up with the funds, I will be offering art commissions at discounted prices, as well as query, synopsis, and submission package critiques.

Sightwitch Blog Tour!

Standard

Hi everyone!

Long time no updates! I should be better at updating this blog, especially since I’ve been producing a lot of portraits. So here! I cast Raise the Dead, prompted by this Sightwitch Blog Tour!

I got an e-ARC for the book from TorTeen, and I got to reading it right away. It’s an excellent addition to the Witchlands universe, and told in a rather unusual format: diaries, with illustrations to accompany it.

I adored Ryber’s POV, and learning how Sightwitches and their little society worked was fascinating. We get to learn a lot more about Ryber, as well as Kullen, and the book does a nice job expanding the world. I don’t want to spoil, but it hints at a very big mystery and now I can’t wait for Bloodwitch.

So here are my contributions! You might have seen Ryber already. I experimented with Gradient Maps and Brushes to make her skin have that gold/green hue.

And a new one! Ryber’s heartthread, Kullen! I used Teddy Sears as a reference when painting him, so any similarities are intentional 😛

Blurb:

Before Safi and Iseult battled a Bloodwitch…

Before Merik returned from the dead…

91QrCSFmO3L.jpgRyber Fortiza was a Sightwitch Sister at a secluded convent, waiting to be called by her goddess into the depths of the mountain. There she would receive the gift of foretelling. But when that call never comes, Ryber finds herself the only Sister without the Sight.

Years pass and Ryber’s misfit pain becomes a dull ache, until one day, Sisters who already possess the Sight are summoned into the mountain, never to return. Soon enough, Ryber is the only Sister left. Now, it is up to her to save her Sisters, though she does not have the Sight―and though she does not know what might await her inside the mountain.

On her journey underground, she encounters a young captain named Kullen Ikray, who has no memory of who he is or how he got there. Together, the two journey ever deeper in search of answers, their road filled with horrors, and what they find at the end of that road will alter the fate of the Witchlands forever.

For those interested in specifics: this took me around 20 hours on Photoshop. I used my go-to stock account, faestock, for a pose reference because hands and I do not get along well.

FROSTBLOOD will be out in January 2017 from Little, Brown (US) and Hodder & Stoughton (UK). It’s a lovely, amazing book, and deserves to be read so add it on Goodreads!

Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the Tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.

And so he initiates the Crown’s Game, an ancient duel of magical skill—the greatest test an enchanter will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the Tsar’s most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death.

Raised on tiny Ovchinin Island her whole life, Vika is eager for the chance to show off her talent in the grand capital of Saint Petersburg. But can she kill another enchanter—even when his magic calls to her like nothing else ever has?

For Nikolai, an orphan, the Crown’s Game is the chance of a lifetime. But his deadly opponent is a force to be reckoned with—beautiful, whip smart, imaginative—and he can’t stop thinking about her.

And when Pasha, Nikolai’s best friend and heir to the throne, also starts to fall for the mysterious enchantress, Nikolai must defeat the girl they both love . . . or be killed himself.

As long-buried secrets emerge, threatening the future of the empire, it becomes dangerously clear . . . the Crown’s Game is not one to lose.

A piece of Truthwitch fanart!

A piece of Truthwitch fanart!

One of my favorite authors — the AMAZING Susan Dennard — has a new Fantasy book coming out in January called TRUTHWITCH. Before Truthwitch, she wrote the Something Strange and Deadly series, which I absolutely loved. Also, she has a website littered with advice for writers, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t read through all of it. Especially the synopsis post. OH THE DREADED SYNOPSIS.

Anyway, I offered to draw some portraits for Susan, because, like I said, she’s a) awesome and b) I would’ve ended up doing them anyway because I can’t help myself. So here is my version of Safiya fon Hasstrel, Truthwitch extraordinaire!

So, I’m a grown-up now

Standard

Not that I haven’t been an adult (technically, anyway) for seven years now. But I have a grown-up job that finally allows me to be monetarily independent. YAY!

And since I’ve been quiet for a while, here are some illustrations I did for Withering Spring (Belladonna) and for Sightless 2.0, the game.

BellCharacterScreen_AislingV2 many sketches

My group and I delivered this project mid-December. We’re now making the Game Treatment, but in the meantime, here: have the prototype for Sightless.

It’s very short and we had to strip down some of the features to deliver it on time (we had one week to make all of it). Writing and art are by me, coding was by my three colleagues!

What I’ve been doing… part deux

Standard

So, for Game Design and Development, we had to submit a game idea of which the nine most voted by the entire class would be made into game prototypes. I subbed an idea I had based on a re-write of Sightless and it was the third(!) with more votes. So yeah, we’re making it! One tiny step towards one of my dreams, which is turning some of my own novels into games!

I’ve been doing concept art for the game. Here are a couple of screens of Aisling!
